Learning Goals

My goal is to focus on practicing my speaking and listening. I want to be able to speak at least a little bit fluent. I would like to be a good speaker that is confident to talk to other people and be able to express the words into sounds that I know so that I can pronounce a word properly.

How do I write a
short reading response???

Use these guidelines if you are stuck! You shouldn’t use the same sentence starters every time though!

Information about the text

Title of Book: Matariki
Author: Waitangi Teepa
Genre/Text Type:
Date Read: 19/February/2020

One paragraph about the basic details of the text

This text was about a group of stars which is called “The Matariki” and there are other names as well.
I chose to read this text because I want to know what is Matariki and who are the seven sisters of Matariki.

One paragraph about interesting details

One interesting/important character/event/theme/language feature was Matariki is also the name for the Maori New Year.

A quote/evidence that shows that you can see the stars of Matariki for most of the year, but they vanish from the night sky in Aotearoa in late April.

This means that the stars show up again in winter in late May or early June.

This relates to me/interests me because There are lots of ways to celebrate Matariki. This interests me because it is time to fish and enjoy being with family and friends.

Reading Response

The title of the short story I've been reading is ¨Hamsterboy¨.

This short story begins with a boy named Harry Thompson who accidentally got power by a hamster that bit him. The hamster that bit Harry Thompson was not just a normal hamster, it came from the Secret Hamster Army Corps (SHAC). Harry Thompson couldn´t control his power because he was changing into a hamsterboy every lunchtime whether he likes it or not. The good thing though he was harmless because he even helped his school to win the Interschool Vegetable-Growing Competition. Hamsterboy is good at digging that´s why he helped his school to win the competition.

ESOL game 03-05-18

I started to think about this game when I and my younger sister played it back in the Philippines.

The game is called "Pinoy Henyo". Pinoy means "Filipino" and "Henyo" means "Genius". In this game, you need 2 people. The other person who's guessing and the other person saying if it's yes or no. The instruction is simple, If you're the guesser you need to guess the word if it's a person, things, place or animals etc. If you're the one who's giving the word, don't give the answer to the guesser. Just write a word and let him guess the word. Don't let him/her see the answers. If he/she saw it you need to give another word. There is also a timer. The guesser will have a minute to guess the word. If the timer runs out, the guesser lose. That's our game.

ESOL 13/04/18

We're gonna pick two of our classmate then the one is the drawer and the other one gonna guess what the drawer's drawing. We're gonna give a word then the drawer gonna draw it, then the other one gonna try to guess it. The crowd gonna give a clue to help the guesser to guess it. We're gonna give the guesser 3 minutes if he didn't guess the word he is out.

Example
We're gonna give a word like "taekwondo" then the drawer gonna draw it and the crowd gonna give a clue like "It's like Judo", "It uses feet", etc. If he didn't guess the word in 3 minutes he is out.

PBL Zumba checkpoint 8

Our third action was to do Zumba at the gym with year 7 and 8 at period 1 and period 4. Franz emailed Mr. Wilson if we could borrow his speaker on Tuesday period 1, We had some trouble finding Mr. Wilson´s speaker we had to call and ask some people where was his speaker, Ms McLaren said that it might be at the S3 but lucky we found it before period 1 at Ms. Jud's office.

Zumba has a lot of high impacts moves that can burn fats and it is a good exercise for our body. The Outcome of the Zumba was everybody was having fun. On Reflection, we should have promoted it at their classes so that we could earn more than 50 cents.

This is the video of our Zumba:
